BCBSNC Launches “Million Step March” Across NC Earlier this month, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC launched a statewide wellness initiative called the “Million Step March” to promote the benefits of physical activity in various locations across North Carolina. This 600-mile initiative is a 10-week campaign that began in Asheville on April 1 hosting dozens of demonstrations and events at schools, community groups, worksites and other locations along the way to inspire people to adopt healthier lifestyles. The event is scheduled to conclude in Wilmington on June 11. The Million Step March (MSM) is led by Kathy Higgins, BCBSNC’s vice president of Community Relations, and nationally-recognized healthy lifestyle advocate Gary Marino, who lost more than 150 pounds over three years by traveling on foot from Florida to Boston to raise awareness about obesity. Marino has teamed up with BCBSNC to show that anyone can live a healthier lifestyle by doing simple tasks like walking regularly. Residents across North Carolina can join the MSM in person or online by visiting www.BetterHealthNC.com. At the website, participants can report their daily physical activity and win prizes as part of the Million Step Challenge, follow the MSM team’s progress walking across the state, and more. They even have the opportunity to determine which North Carolina non-profit organization receives a $75,000 physical activity contribution from BCBSNC. The Million Step March will be arriving at several major NC cities according to the following schedule: • Charlotte April 16 • Greensboro April 26 • Raleigh April 29 • Durham May 1 • Greenville May 21 • Fayetteville May 31 • Wilmington June 11 Should you have any questions about how your company can become involved with the Million Step March, please contact our office at 919-403-1986.
