UnitedHealthcare Alters Underwriting Guidelines for Small Groups Effective immediately, UnitedHealthcare’s underwriting guidelines for small businesses (under 50 employees) will be based on the number of eligible employees, rather than the number of enrolled employees. For example, a NC group with 27 eligible employees and 24 enrolled will qualify under Employer Form Underwriting, and will be eligible for the 0.80 health tier. The employees will then complete the application with no medical questions. On the other hand, a NC group with 24 eligible employees and 24 enrolled will qualify under Individual Underwriting using the 14-Question application, and will be eligible for the 0.75 health tier. Should you have any questions about these changes to UHC’s underwriting guidelines, please contact our office at 919-403-1986.
