BCBSNC Goes Proactive with
Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC is engaging in a new proactive campaign to remind applicable members of the dangers of colon cancer and the importance of colon cancer screening. Throughout the month of July, BCBSNC will send screening reminders to over 15,000 fully-insured Blue Options (PPO) and Blue Care (HMO) members over 50 years of age that are due for colon cancer screening. The mailings will be sent utilizing two different messages in an effort to discern which approach is most effective at increasing screening awareness. Some members will receive a general letter reminding them that they may be due for a colon cancer screening, while others will receive a fecal occult blood test (FOBT) letter reminding them that FOBT tests need to be done annually for early detection of colon cancer. BCBSNC is also encouraging businesses to include a promotional article on colon cancer screening in their company newsletters, and have provided the attached sample article to help with this promotion.
