UnitedHealthcare Reminding Employers about Medicare Part D Creditable Coverage Notification

As discussed in the Compliance Alert dated July 30, 2008, employers that provide prescription drug coverage must disclose to all Medicare Part D eligible individuals under the plan whether such coverage is "creditable”. To assist with this notification, UnitedHealthcare will be contacting affected employers later this month to remind them of the resources available for determining plan status.

In addition to the support UHC offers all of its customers, the carrier also offers bulk test analyses of all its standard plans with prescription drug benefits to assist employers with creditable coverage determination. Information about these resources can be found online at UnitedHealthcare.com, and additional information will be mailed via postcard later this month.

If you offer prescription drug coverage, you are required by the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) to not only determine if your plan provides creditable coverage, but you must also communicate the status to Part D eligible individuals at least once a year by no later than November 15, 2008.

If you would like more information about determining if your plan is creditable or the resources available to you, please contact our office at 919-403-1986.
