Small Plan HIPAA Privacy Reminder The HIPAA Privacy Rules require that health plans must remind participants about the availability of their existing Notice of Privacy Practices once every three years. For small plans (defined as those with annual gross receipt of $5 million or less) that sent their initial privacy notices in accordance with the April 15, 2004, deadline, the compliance date for the triennial reminder notice requirement is April 14, 2007. Large plans already should have complied by April 14, 2006. The Department of Health and Human Services describes a number of ways that a plan may satisfy this requirement, including:
