

		BCBSNC Updating Members on Pharmacy Re-Contracting Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC is undergoing an extensive mailing campaign over the next several weeks to update affected members and groups on the status of the carrier’s efforts to re-contract with their Medco network of retail pharmacies. The mailings will inform affected members if their pharmacy has not yet re-contracted with BCBSNC and Medco to become a part of their new commercial network (which will become effective Nov. 1, 2009) or their new Medicare Part D network (which will become effective Jan. 1, 2010). To date, all chain pharmacies (i.e. Wal-Mart, Kerr Drug, CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Target, Harris Teeter, etc.) that are currently in the BCBSNC/Medco North Carolina network have renewed their contracts. However, several independent pharmacies have not re-contracted with Medco, and any member who had a prescription filled over the past six months at any of these pharmacies (as well as the member’s group) will be informed of as to the re-contracting status of that pharmacy and the resulting service disruption. These letters will also list other nearby participating pharmacies should the member wish to transfer his or her prescription(s). Members should be aware that, even if they are informed of their pharmacy’s decision to not participate in the new network, that pharmacy may still sign a new contract with BCBSNC/Medco. Mailings to affected members and member groups regarding the BCBSNC/Medco commercial network have already begun, and will continue for the next couple weeks. Mailings regarding the BCBSNC/Medco Medicare Part D network will begin Thursday (10/29), and continue through December.
