CIGNA Taps CareCentrix as New DME Provider

As of February 1, 2010, CareCentrix will be the exclusive participating provider of durable medical equipment (DME) for all CIGNA members. As a result, CareCentrix, which already provides health and home infusion services for CIGNA members, will now supply DME items such as beds, wheelchairs, and walkers, in addition to their other offerings. CIGNA anticipates no physical transition of equipment or interruption of services, as their previous DME provider, Apria Healthcare, is now subcontracted with CareCentrix.

CIGNA’s new agreement with CareCentrix will allow the supplier to coordinate, manage and integrate DME and related benefits for all CIGNA members through its network of contracted providers. In addition to DME, CareCentrix will continue to provide respiratory equipment, enteral (tube feeding) nutrition support, home health care, home infusion products, and other specialty services (such as insulin and CPM pumps and supplies).

CIGNA is working with CareCentrix to conduct a smooth and seamless transition of services for members currently receiving DME services from a provider not participating in the CIGNA or CareCentrix network. These members should expect a 30 to 90 day transition period during which CIGNA and CareCentrix will contact affected members. CareCentrix may also contact certain providers to re-authorize services.
