Guardian to Change Vendor for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Benefits Guardian has announced they are in the process of changing their administrator of mental health and substance abuse benefits to Magellan Behavioral Health. However, while the change is effective for several groups nationwide as of January 1, 2010, the change will not go into effect for North Carolina employers until the NC Department of Insurance grants approval, which Guardian anticipates will be sometime within the first quarter of 2010. Magellan Behavioral Health is a nationally-known specialty care management vendor specializing in administration of mental health and substance abuse services. With Magellan’s national network of providers and specialized service approach, employees will receive improved access, coordination of benefits and higher quality of care. Despite the change-over from Integrated Behavioral Health to Magellan, Guardian expects there will be no change in benefits for your employees and their dependents. Once the change is made official, Guardian will communicate all necessary details regarding the transition. In the meantime, if you have any questions about this change, please contact our office at 919-403-1986.
