BCBSNC Generic Copay Waiver Program Ending June 30

All covered members should be aware that the Generic Copayment Waiver Program initiated by Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC at the start of this year, will be ending June 30, 2009. As a result, beginning July 1, all fully-insured employer groups will revert to the Medication Dedication program that waives only copayments for generic medications used to treat certain chronic diseases. In addition, any ASO groups that opted into the program will revert either to Medication Dedication program copayment levels or their current plan copayment levels on July 1.

Covered employees should be notified that they have until June 30 to take advantage of copayment waivers on all generic medications. As of July 1, employees of fully-insured employer groups and ASO groups that have opted into Medication Dedication will only be able to receive waivers for generic medications used to treat congestive heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure, and/or high cholesterol. Otherwise, any covered employee who fills/refills a generic medication prescription not included in the Medication Dedication program will be charged the generic copayment for that medication.

Should you have any questions about these programs, please contact our office at 919-403-1986.
