Benefits Consulting Firm Hosts Educational Event For Local Businesses On HIPAA And Group Health Plans

WILMINGTON, N.C., October 20, 2015 – Hill, Chesson & Woody (HCW), a local benefits and consulting firm, will host a free educational seminar on Wednesday, October 28th, at Cape Fear Country Club, located at 1518 Country Club Rd. This program, a part of HCW’s Employee Benefits Ready series, will focus on what employers need to know about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the effect it has on group health plans.

One of HCW’s consultants, Ellen Tucker, will review eight important points for employer-sponsored group health plans. We will also address the need for policies and procedures, and the importance of HIPAA training for human resources staff charged with managing the group health plans offered by an employer.

This free seminar is accredited by the HR Certification Institute for 1.00 general credit hour toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification. HCW is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m., with the presentation beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to register, visit http://info.hcw-events.com/EBRWilm2.

“Many employers assume there is a one-size-fits-all approach to HIPAA compliance for group health plans,” said Todd Yates, HCW partner and CEO. “Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Many times, seemingly harmless actions can trigger a breach and result in an unwanted audit and even worse, costly penalties. Attendees will learn what it takes for group health plans and plan sponsors to use and disclose Protected Health Information correctly and how to stay compliant with HIPAA. ”
