Mail Order Prescription Change

HCW wanted to remind our Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina clients that as of September 30, 2017, PrimeMail prescriptions were being filled by Walgreens Mail Service.

All members using PrimeMail for maintenance medication refills would have been affected by this change. Members should now use walgreens.com/primemail to fill mail order prescriptions. All members’ current prescriptions were transferred over to Walgreens Mail Service, so members only need to request their doctors send over prescriptions for expired prescriptions.

If members do not wish to use PrimeMail by Walgreens Mail Service, they should not  request any refills on current maintenance medications. Their prescriptions can be transferred to a pharmacy of their choice.

PrimeMail Prescription Refills Change to Walgreens Mail Service

Do you use PrimeMail for your prescription refills? If you do, beginning September 30, 2017 your prescriptions will now be filled by Walgreens Mail Service. All of your active mail order prescriptions will automatically be on file through Walgreens Mail Service. Your mail service phone number will remain the same and you will continue to receive refill reminders. Customer Service hours will remain 24/7.

How this affects you:

  • For your next refill you will need to visit walgreens.com/primemail to fill mail order prescriptions. Once you have received your first refill, your prescription label will now have the new phone number to call.
  • In order to protect your financial data, your credit card information will not be transferred over. You will need to provide payment information when filling your first prescription.
  • You will need to validate your email on file as well as your over-the-counter medications, allergies and health conditions when you go online or speak with a call center agent when ordering prescriptions
  • If you have a new prescription after 9/30/2017, you don’t have refills, or your prescription expired, your doctor will need to send new prescriptions electronically to Walgreens Mail Service in Tempe, AZ or fax them to 1-800-332-9581.
  • The Auto Refill program is now available! You can sign up online or call the call center and tell them which medications you want in this program.
  • The cost of your prescriptions should not change. You can look at current medical pricing online at MyPrime.com.
  • If you do not wish to use PrimeMail by Walgreens Mail Service, you do not need to. Simply do not request any refills, and you will not receive any medications. Your prescriptions can be transferred to a pharmacy of your choice.
