Three Common Vaccines Become a Covered Pharmacy Benefit

Three Common Vaccines Become a Covered Pharmacy Benefit

October 23, 2017

Beginning January 1, 2018, flu, shingles, and pneumonia vaccines will be covered under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) pharmacy benefit. This is an expansion of existing coverage that lies under current BCBSNC medical benefits. This change excludes State Health Plan, Federal Employee Program, Medicare Part D and those with an ASO Net Results formulary.

The change will be included in benefit booklets beginning January 1, 2018. These vaccines will be of no cost to BCBSNC members, however, they will need to show their ID to receive their injection. Out-of-state members will now have access to immunizations at the pharmacy.
