UnitedHealthcare and Duke LifePoint Contract Negotiation

UnitedHealthcare and Duke LifePoint Contract Negotiation

November 30, 2018

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Duke LifePoint (DLP) have been negotiating the renewal of multiple hospital contracts for employer-sponsored, individual and Medicare Advantage health plans. UHC is working to reach an agreement that preserves members’ access to local care without significantly raising the cost of healthcare. Please be advised that if an agreement is not reached, the following North Carolina hospitals would be out-of-network on the following dates, and could impact your covered members:

Dec. 1, 2018
Maria Parham Medical Center, Henderson, NC

Dec. 15, 2018
Person Memorial Hospital, Roxboro, NC

Jan. 1, 2019
Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC
Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, NC
Rutherford Hospital, Rutherfordton, NC

Members will receive letters from UHC explaining there is a chance these DLP hospitals may no longer be in-network for the dates listed above and ensuring they’re aware of the other in-network options that remain in the impacted areas.

If unable to reach an agreement, UHC members who are pregnant or undergoing active treatment for a serious medical condition, such as cancer may be able to continue receiving care at the affected hospitals with in-network coverage for a period of time. To determine eligibility, members can call the customer service number on their health plan ID card.
